Job Summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting new opportunity for a 1-Year Fixed-Term, Full-Time Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join the In-Patient Unit team based at our Turnchapel Hospice. Alongside IPU management as a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will take responsibility for the Inpatient Unit (IPU) to ensure the smooth running of the unit and the delivery of high-quality palliative care to our patients and their carers.
Integral to your clinical role you will also work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide individualised care for patients and their families/carers.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
1. Working closely with and reporting to the Clinical Lead of IPU Nursing, you will provide guidance, support, and act as a role model to newly registered nurses in their preceptorship period to develop their clinical skills, confidence in decision making and sound application of theory to practice.
2. To act as a mentor and role model for the IPU Nursing team, to attend multi-disciplinary team and wider service meetings, taking an active role and dealing with actions arising as appropriate.
3. In the absence of the IPU Nurse Manager take referrals from external professionals and prioritise as appropriate, leading by example, and demonstrating consistent, fair and professional behaviours.
Our Ideal Candidate
We're looking for an experienced Sister/Charge Nurse in Palliative Care who has the passion, skills, commitment, and resilience to support the leadership of this established team. To succeed in this role you will need:
1. Registered Adult Nurse 1st level with NMC
2. Post qualifying experience working within palliative care in a multidisciplinary care environment.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
