Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Scottish Water provides an essential service to local communities across Scotland – providing a reliable supply of fresh water to homes and businesses, and protecting our environment by treating and managing waste water.
We’re looking for a Mechanical Craftsperson to join our Engineering and Maintenance team to help us keep our operational sites running smoothly.
What you’ll do
1. Work as part of a team to install, maintain and repair the assets that power our water, waste water, and distribution networks.
2. Use core mechanical craft skills, as well as electrical knowledge to resolve technical issues and find solutions.
3. Assemble and disassemble equipment to component level, including pumps (progressive cavity, diaphragm, and centrifugal), valves (gate, non-return, air, and butterfly), gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and various types of pipework.
4. Perform basic electrical tasks such as connections/disconnections of motors, fuse replacement, and trip resetting.
5. Conduct risk assessments and follow safe working practices to ensure safety for yourself and others.
6. Collaborate with the Workflow team to plan and coordinate resources across the region for effective incident response.
What you’ll bring
1. A recognized Mechanical apprenticeship and additional qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering.
2. A full UK driving license, as some sites are in remote areas.
3. Willingness to participate in an occasional Out of Hours working rota for emergencies.
4. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
