A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior/Principal Antenna Engineer to join the Antenna Group at the Edinburgh site of Leonardo. We are currently expanding our group to support research and development activities on current and future products and are looking for a Senior / Principal Antenna Engineer with experience in any aspect of phased array antenna design, modelling or measurements. Existing knowledge or experience of radar would be advantageous. You will report to the Antenna Lead Technical Specialist and work within a team of 15 highly motivated engineers covering electromagnetic design, antenna test, simulation and analysis to support the development of advanced phased array antennas for radar applications through various stages of the engineering lifecycle. As a Systems Engineer, you will work closely with the Systems Team Lead as well as the engineering functions necessary to deliver the Radar product to the customer community. What you will do as a Systems/Senior Systems Engineer The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to various aspects of technical design, simulation, measurement and analysis covering a variety of different projects at all stages of the engineering lifecycle. The role often involves manipulating large volumes of data and working at fast pace on multiple projects in order to deliver to customer requirements. In addition, the candidate will be able to further develop their technical knowledge and understanding of phased array systems by working as part of various Integrated Project Teams. As a Senior/Principal Antenna Engineer, your role may involve some or all of involve the following: Develop new or advance existing designs of phased array antenna systems for radar systems from concept creation through to supporting integration, test and analysis. Perform performance analysis and comparisons of various antenna architectures and concepts for a variety of radar applications at various levels of fidelity. Contribute to or lead research and development projects to advance our design, simulation and measurement capabilities. Create antenna performance and test requirement definitions to support a variety of phased array systems. Work with antenna test engineers to define test procedures, create test and analysis plans, report results in a variety of formats e.g. formal reports, automated reports and presentations. Contribute to the planning and progress reports of both development and production antenna test activities. Develop scripted solutions in MATLAB to support pre- and post-processing of phased array antenna test in both Near-field Range and Compact Antenna Test Range environments. What we need from you A degree in a mathematical, engineering or suitable science-based subject. You will ideally have experience and knowledge in the following areas: A strong theoretical background in Antennas and Electromagnetics, a Master degree or PhD in a subject such as Antenna Design, Propagation, Electromagnetics, Microwave engineering, etc. is highly desirable. Excellent numerical problem-solving skills and an aptitude for lateral thinking. Experience in phased array antenna or microwave components design and modelling, measurement using standard RF test equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyser, etc.) would be advantageous. Knowledge of Phased Array Antenna test processes, equipment, facilities and post-processing standards is desirable. Have a good working knowledge of MATLAB in order to perform analysis of results. Knowledge of other scripting/programming languages may be considered if it suggests an easy adaptation to MATLAB. Have a basic knowledge of commercial electromagnetic modelling tools. Experience and advanced use would be advantageous. Strong knowledge and practical experience of working across different stages of the engineering lifecycle. The ability to quickly understand and break down complex problems both on your own or as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships with engineers, managers, subject matter experts and customers. A high level of personal resilience when working in a high pressure environment. Please note this position will require full-time attendance on-site in Edinburgh.
