Your role and responsibilities
A 12-month industrial work placement as an electronics and/or embedded software engineer working in analytical instrumentation as part of a product design and development team within a leading global engineering corporation. Based at our St Neots location, over the course of your industrial placement you will experience:
1. Working with experienced electronics engineers to design, develop and test analogue and digital electronics solutions to meet required product specifications and agreed timescales.
2. Working with experienced embedded software engineers in the design, implementation and validation of embedded software for microcontroller-based electronics products, primarily written in C, completed to agreed timescales and specifications.
3. Supporting maintenance activities, including resolution of end-of-life component issues and root cause analysis of hardware and software issues.
4. Working within a multi-functional team of design engineers on new product development projects and legacy product design enhancements.
5. Estimating, planning and documenting own work at all stages of the development cycle.
6. Complying with the corporate and regulatory standards and systems relevant to the workplace for quality, safe working, ethics and integrity, environment and risk management.
Qualifications for the role
* Ongoing undergraduate studies in electronic engineering, systems engineering, software engineering (computer science) or other related subject and able to spend at least 12 months in industrial employment beginning in 2025 - essential. Desired start date would be July 1st 2025 but a later start date in August or September could be accommodated for the right candidate.
* Basic knowledge of analogue/digital electronics or basic competency in software design and programming of microcontroller systems using C - essential.
* Experience using tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers - desirable.
* Practical experience in electronics e.g. soldering, prototyping - desirable.
* Experience of other programming languages e.g. Python, C++, C#, LabView, etc - desirable.
