BCL Legal is delighted to be assisting a highly regarded national planning team in Birmingham with the recruitment of an Associate Planning Solicitor at the 2-3 years PQE level. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that handles some of the most high-profile planning projects in the UK, advising on complex developments across a variety of sectors including residential, commercial, infrastructure, and regeneration.
The practice is renowned for providing commercially astute advice to developers, landowners, retailers, and local authorities, as well as representing clients at inquiries, appeals, and judicial reviews. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge projects with significant career progression opportunities.
The Role
As an Associate Planning Solicitor, you will:
· Manage your own caseload and contribute to major development projects across multiple sectors including housing, retail, infrastructure, and regeneration.
· Advise clients on planning law, compulsory purchase, and environmental matters.
· Represent clients at inquiries, judicial reviews, and appeals.
· Draft planning-related deeds and documents, including planning agreements, infrastructure agreements, and development consent orders.
· Provide clear and commercially-focused legal advice to clients, while working closely with colleagues and other professionals such as surveyors and local authorities.
· Be actively involved in business development and marketing, including preparing presentations and attending client seminars.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
· 1-5 years' PQE in planning law (or a related practice area).
· A solid understanding of planning applications, hearings, appeals, and compulsory purchase issues.
· The ability to manage your own caseload and work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate effectively.
· A proactive approach to client relationships, with an interest in developing your business development skills.
