Due to continued growth, MacRail is recruiting for Railway Site Access Controllers (SAC) to start work on railway engineering sites in Kendal (Cumbria) and the surrounding areas.
MacRail is the market leader in the Site Access industry, operating nationally with lots of work on offer.
We are looking for people who are seeking flexible working patterns and are interested in shift work. This is due to the nature of the work as it is continuously moving around the country, so no one week will be the same!
Predominantly, most of the work will be over the weekend, running from Friday nights through to Monday morning. However, we also cover a large number of blockades where a section of track can be completely closed 24/7 for up to 8 weeks, meaning more shifts during the week can be offered. Depending on your availability, you can expect anywhere from 1-3 shifts (10-36 hours) at the weekend, with additional midweek when required (40+).
The location of the work can vary each week as the works progress and move up/down the track, so you will need a driving licence, access to a car, and be prepared to travel up to 60 miles. This means you get to visit some beautiful places along the way, and if you do not mind staying in accommodation, you can further increase your opportunities for additional work. In such cases, MacRail will provide the accommodation and can supplement any additional travelling costs by increasing the hourly rate.
Benefits
* Network Rail offers a substantial bonus for shifts worked over Christmas/New Year. Shifts are paid at double time and come with a bonus per shift worked during the qualifying period (normally around the £400 per shift mark, so can be very lucrative).

* Full pay if the shift is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
* Full pay if the shift is completed early.
* See parts of the country you may not have had the opportunity to in the past.

* Depending on your location and our requirements, successful candidates may also be issued a company van. This comes with a fuel card and increased chances of work.
* Pathway leading to working on track by gaining railway experience.
* Flexible working.
* Shifts allocated within a comprehensive fatigue management system.
* Accommodation provided (if necessary).
* PPE Provided.
* Bonus opportunities for coming top of the League Table.
Terms & Conditions

Umbrella firms including Bishops Gate take deductions for their services; however, their margins are at the lower end of the market and are highly competitive. Everything will be explained in detail to you when registering.
The hourly rate can vary depending on certain factors; however, the assignment rate we pay the Umbrella company before deductions is £14.79 (midweek days), £14.96 (midweek nights), and £15.21 (weekends) per hour working between 12 to 32 hours per week.
Due to fatigue management, you may be required to stay away; accommodation will be provided at MacRail’s cost. Mileage and expenses are covered at the hourly rate, although unforeseen expenses can be claimed with approval from a Senior Manager.
Full training is provided and is paid for (assuming you complete your first solo shift).
