We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, motivated and dynamic nurse to join our pre assessment team working across sites at both North Tees and Hartlepool Pre Assessment Units.
The post holder will be a Senior member of the team in the capacity of Team Lead and will provide support and advice alongside effective leadership to a specified clinical team. This will be achieved by ensuring the provision of high quality, safe and effective care. They will provide clinical supervision to other staff and lead on clinical audits within their own area.
You must have recent in depth knowledge of Pre assessment.
There are 2 Pre Assessment units within the Trust, providing pre assessment care for patients preparing to undergo a range of Surgical procedures for Day case procedures and more complex inpatient assessments. We also undertake Anaesthetic clinics, non medical prescribing, clinical assessments and history taking.
The units currently operate Monday – Friday 8.00am-6pm.
- To undertake all Nursing procedures in line with Trust and Nice Guidelines for Pre Assessment
- Using information obtained from patient, nursing records, medical records and subsequent clinical observations to identify a patients ASA grade and suitability for surgery
- To recognise patients changing condition and seek appropriate escalation and referral to other clinics to ensure a comprehensive pre assessment
- Appropriately identify and refer to GP to ensure any pre existing conditions or new conditions are monitored and controlled prior to surgery

- Ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard to their customs and religious beliefs.
- Independently manage a group of patients within the speciality whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualized and personalized direct patient care.
- Act as an advocate for staff, patients and relatives at all times
- Prescribe or use PGD to supply medications which have been identified during the pre assessment
- Accountable for own practice in line with NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his/her knowledge and professional competence
- Liaise with regional colleagues and ensure benchmarking and best practice in line with NICE guidelines and GIRFT
- To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff.
