‘AUKUS’, which stands for Australia, United Kingdom and United States is a trilateral defence and security partnership that will see Australia acquire its own conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine fleet, with the support of UK and US. There are three phases to this acquisition programme: phase 1 - the operation of UK and US submarines out of Western Australia and development of the industrial workforce, phase 2 - the acquisition of 3 Virginia Class Submarines from the US and phase 3 – the design and construction of major infrastructure and subsequent construction and delivery of AUKUS Class Submarines in Australia.
The role
As a Principal Supportability Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This position is a lead-level professional role that will draw upon a depth of Engineering or Operations experience to undertake complex assignments and provide technical leadership and direction to the Supportability Engineering team. We’re looking for someone with experience of through-life support to complex assets.. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded engineer and strong leader with the ability to effectively motivate a team and engage people of all levels in the organisation.
Day-to-day, you’ll be playing a lead role in the development of technical outputs for the AUKUS Support programme, leading a small team of Supportability Engineers through delivery of various technical taskings.
1. Work closely with the customer and senior leadership team to define requirements for future taskings, ensuring balance between customer wants and needs and business capabilities and objectives.
2. Ensuring a high-standard of assurance to technical outputs, which will include robust internal review prior to delivery.
3. Engaging with international stakeholders from various government and industrial organisations, this will require an ability to appreciate a range of different perspectives and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
4. You will be recognised as a member of the leadership team and will work closely with the Programme Manager and Technical Lead. You will be a key player in determining the future direction of the programme, to ensure that Babcock provide the best possible advice and support to Australia.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with flexible start and finish times.

8. You will have background in an Engineering or Operations environment, with the ability to think holistically.
