As part of Delta, Education Trust, Harbour School Dorset’s vision is “Learning together in pursuit of happiness”. This means we really care whether students love or hate their learning, so we work hard to create a space where students learn together to become knowledgeable, self-aware, independent and happy people who make a positive difference, wherever life takes them. Are you an enthusiastic individual who can bring this vision to life and make a real difference to children’s lives?
Our Learning Mentors work alongside our Class Teachers, a bit like Teaching Assistants……… but even more awesome.
This is why you’re awesome:
1. Your friends say you are the kindest person they know
2. Stressful situations are a part of life, but you’re the one that stays calm
3. Resilient – As Chumbawamba once said “I get knocked down, but I get up again”
4. Empathic – It’s because you understand how others feel and why they behave in certain ways.
5. We don’t expect you to know everything, but you’re enthusiastic to learn so that you can be the best you.
6. Self-awareness - Knowing how you are feeling and how this can impact others is so important for you to meet the needs of our students and having this awareness is what makes you special.
7. And while all of the above is about you, the most important thing is that you understand it’s really all about the students.
Louis has struggled to attend school for years. Thanks to his Learning Mentor, Louis developed ways of learning and emotional regulation, helping him to keep up with and exceed his peers. Louis is thriving right now, loving his Apprenticeship and positively engaging in his work experience with a local employer.
2022 was quite the year, not just for Louis, but also for Harbour School Dorset; we moved into a brand new school building and supported the 30 students already in place. Now we are embarking on the next stage of growth, increasing our staffing team to support the 50 students that have joined us this September.
Dan our Headteacher and his senior team are looking for awesome people to join our team and right now are looking for Learning Mentors to make a difference to children with Autistic Spectrum Condition and social, emotional and mental health needs - giving them the opportunities they deserve is a job like no other.
You will have the opportunity to develop your career in a School and Delta Education Trust, a small but growing Trust. Our ethos is encompassed in our vision “Learning together in pursuit of happiness”. We put this into practice by ensuring:
8. All decisions are made in the best interests of staff, students and families.
9. High support, high challenge and evidence informed in everything we do.
10. We work collaboratively and make team, not individual, decisions.
11. We acknowledge our mistakes and use them to learn and improve.
12. We are always open to learning and seeking new ideas.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, this role involves directly working with children and significant contact with children, and therefore we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. Please ensure a full work history is completed in your application form including any gaps of employment. Applicants will be required to complete satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for this post prior to commencement. The Trust is an equal opportunities employer.
If successfully shortlisted the HR Department will also be conducting an individual online search including social media platforms of your ‘name, education and employment’, to demonstrate due diligence following the updated ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022' guidance. The search will not form part of the actual shortlisting process and any concerns arising from the search will be discussed directly with you.
Please note applications will be viewed on receipt, we reserve the right to close the role early.
