An opportunity has arisen in the main operating theatre department for a high profile, accessible and responsive leader to coordinate the effective and efficient access of emergency patients to theatres. In conjunction with the multidisciplinary teams, the role aims to deliver high quality and timely patient care. The candidate must be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice, ensuring national and local agreed standards/targets are met and taking charge of the theatre department out of hours.
The role requires:
1. Leading and supporting the emergency theatre team and floor control.
2. Coordinating the flow of emergency patients through the theatre department.
3. Accountability for own actions in accordance with Codes of Professional Conduct.
4. Highly developed communication skills, collaborating with all theatre specialities, Anaesthetic and Theatre teams to ensure the appropriate assessment and treatment of emergency surgical patients.
5. Coordinating timely and appropriate access for emergency patients to the most suitable theatre resource.
6. Identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing solutions, and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
7. Using agreed procedures for the safe and effective use of the Trust’s operating theatre resources.
8. Undertaking highly specialised technical and/or practical skills for optimum patient management.
9. Acting as a resource for staff, coaching, mentoring others, and providing expert advice on the emergency process.
10. Developing, implementing, and evaluating education and training for staff, patients, and carers in support of the emergency patient process.
11. Auditing practice, developing remedial action plans, and participating in research for service improvement.
12. Utilising information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely information relating to patient, workforce, and theatre resources.
13. Supporting patients, carers, and others during difficult situations in the clinical area.
14. Promoting and monitoring adherence to Health and Safety and Trust Policy.
