Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30
All Education and Training provided – Working with children aged 7-19 years old with a Nursery to KS1 level of cognitive ability. If you have a caring nature and want to be part of a vibrant, empathetic team and school, this role could really appeal to you.
We are looking for a graduate or non-graduate with good instincts for Nursery and early years aged children. This role involves working within personal care with students who are incredibly lively and come from different backgrounds and cultures. An interest in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy is an advantage but not essential.
This role will be in a specialist Autistic school for children 7-19, catering for a range of Autism, Complex Social Needs, and academic ability. This role is situated with children whose Autism leads to severe learning challenges, some will also have physical disabilities.
Can you make the students’ lives just a little bit better today, keep them safe, and demonstrate the value of education? You will receive a great deal of SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA Training.
Responsibilities:
1. Physical work combined with being pragmatic, making as much academic progress as each child’s context allows.
2. Introduce therapies and holistic processes; a little progress is a cause for success here.
3. Focus on Pathological Demand Avoidance and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
4. Real focus on Early Years and Non-Verbal students, using holistic techniques to gain engagement.
5. Provide positive engagement, giving children a sense of acceptance; different approaches may be required as talking therapy will not always work.
It is vital that you are sincere about your objectives and know why you want to work in the SEN and mental health sector, providing the best possible foundations for vulnerable students who have suffered several traumas and have been let down by the adult world. These roles are not easy, and it takes months or years to build foundations with vulnerable students and young learners.
