The job itself
I am looking for someone to support a 13-year-old male who has Autism, ADHS and sensory processing difficulties who is patient and creative to join in activities he enjoys which include photography, making short films, swimming, go-carting, walking, and trampolining.
He’s also really interested in steam trains and cars and likes activities that include these.
He would need you to help him when he’s struggling with his anxiety and impulsiveness. He needs lots of support to adapt to new environments, routines, and social situations. He is sensitive to environments and sometimes struggles with the reactions of others, and his own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. He can have difficulty processing and managing these appropriately and sometimes can get himself in to unsafe situations.
The term time hours are primarily for a weekend and the holiday hours and are flexible to meet the needs of him and his family.
It takes him a while to trust others and feel comfortable with them so ideally, he would like a worker that can commit to working with him regularly so they can build a positive relationship with each other. He enjoys making jokes and would like chatting, about his interests whilst enjoying adventures together.
His parents would like the successful candidate to have knowledge of working with children, preferably with some SEND experience, although this is not essential and having the right qualities is just as important. They should be approachable, caring and confident in working with young people.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
