Sidney House and The Laurels Surgery has an opportunity for a part-time receptionist, on a part time basis for 20 hours per week, to join our friendly and supportive team. The working pattern is: Monday 1:30pm–6:30pm Wednesday 8am-1pm Thursday 8am–6:30pm In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, which is not always a doctor, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed. Receptionists must be confident working with the general public, and able to remain calm under pressure. Patients are being encouraged to use online systems to contact their surgeries and so the successful candidate must be confident with IT and be prepared to fully embrace digital ways of working. The main responsibilities of the role include: Greeting and directing all patients and visitors. Making appointments and giving out appointment cards, where required Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc. Dealing with requests for information, managing problems and complaints. Advising patients of practice procedures. Registering new patients. Answering the telephone and digital requests promptly. Promoting the use of online services as a means of accessing healthcare. About the Candidate Experience in general practice and knowledge of SystmOne is an advantage, although full training will be provided. You will have the following skills and experience: Polite and reliable with patience and compassion. Able to converse with patients of all ages and needs Previous experience of working with the general public. Excellent communication skills. Polite telephone manner. Confident using IT and can quickly pick up new software skills Able to work as part of a team but to have initiative and be able to work independently. Understand and carry out duties within the rules of data protection and confidentiality protocols. Flexibility to provide annual leave and absence cover for colleagues. About Us We are a two-site training practice based in the semi-rural villages of Hatfield Peverel and Boreham, serving a patient population of 11,200. We are a SystmOne Practice with a consistently high QOF achievement and a CQC rating of Good. We are part of the Aegros PCN with Lt. Waltham & Great Notley, Douglas Grove Surgery and the Beacon Health Group. Our team is made up of three GP partners, five salaried GPs, a paramedic practitioner, a nurse prescriber, practice nurses and HCAs, a phlebotomist and dispensers. We are further supported by PCN staff including a pharmacist and physiotherapist. Additionally we have a well established non-clinical team of managers, administrators, dispensers and receptionists.
