Streetmason Opportunities - Join Our City Highways Team Location: Leicester Division: City Development & Neighbourhood Services Service Area: Planning Development & Transportation Team: City Highways Job Titles: Skilled Streetmason Streetmason Improver Pay: £14.62 per hour Contract: Full-time, temporary Hours: 37 per week About the Roles We are seeking two dedicated professionals to join Leicester's City Highways team-either as a Skilled Streetmason or Streetmason Improver-as part of our structured career pathway. You'll play a vital role in maintaining and improving Leicester's highways and infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, and drainage systems. This is a rewarding, hands-on role where your work has a visible impact on the city and its residents. Key Responsibilities For both roles: Construct and maintain roads, footpaths, kerbs, and drainage systems. Lay a variety of paving materials (e.g., slabs, blocks, granite setts) to precise line and level. Operate powered tools, minor plant, and site vehicles. Perform "Banksman" duties - supervising vehicle and machinery movements. Maintain site vehicles and complete routine paperwork (e.g., timesheets). Support traffic management, drainage, and other operational services as required. Communicate respectfully and clearly with residents and the general public. Additional duties for each role: Skilled Streetmason (Level A): Deliver complex construction tasks to a high standard. Plan and prioritise work with minimal supervision. Mentor and support less experienced team members. Streetmason Improver (Level B): Carry out routine construction tasks under guidance. Work effectively as part of a team or independently on basic tasks. Develop skills with the aim to progress within the pathway. What We're Looking For Experience: Level A: Significant experience as a Streetmason or in a similar construction role. Level B: Previous experience in construction or highway maintenance. Experience supervising machinery/vehicles (Banksman duties). Skills & Knowledge: Accurate laying of paving and kerbing materials. Understanding of health & safety procedures in construction. Ability to read and interpret drawings and instructions. Good communication, teamwork, and basic numeracy skills. Qualifications: Essential: CSCS Health & Safety Certificate/Card NRSWA Accreditation (or willingness to obtain within 6 months) Full valid UK driving licence Desirable: Plant/machinery operator certifications First aid training LGV license If you've got experience and a can-do attitude, we'd like to hear from you.
