External Examiner – Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) Programme
An External Examiner is required for Years 1 and 2 on the BN (Hons) programme at the Nursing & Health Care School, University of Glasgow. We are part of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. We offer a four-year Honours degree in Adult Nursing, which leads to NMC registration. Consistently ranked among the top nursing schools in UK university league tables, our BN (Hons) programme is grounded in biomedical life sciences. This foundation builds progressively, enhancing knowledge of the biological basis of human disease and its connection to nursing theory and person-centred care. The ideal candidate would be experienced in teaching and assessing nursing theory, research, and healthcare ethics on an undergraduate nursing programme. Previous experience of external examining is necessary. The candidate should have current adult registration with the NMC, and a recognised teaching qualification. Possession of a Masters/Honours degree is essential.
The appointment will be for four years, from October 2025 and will cover Nursing courses in Years 1 and 2. Appointments are subject to the University Senate’s criteria for external examiners.
The commitment required is normally as follows:
1. Review and moderation of a range of coursework and assessments throughout the year.
2. Submission of an External Examiner’s Annual Report.
3. Membership and attendance at Boards of Examiners.
4. Collaboration with the BN team to inform the continued monitoring, review, and enhancement of these courses.
