We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Charge Nurse to join our lively and busy multi-disciplinary team at Rosemary Ward in Melbury Lodge.
Melbury Lodge has two adult acute wards- Rosemary Ward offering care for up to 13 female patients and Sherwood Ward offering care for up to 13 male patients. It also houses Snowdrop Ward (Older Person Mental Health Ward) and Clover Ward (Mother and Baby Ward). Melbury Lodge is based in Winchester and provides care for the needs of service users across Hampshire. We provide care and treatment to service users who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis and require a period of hospital care to support their recovery.
We are looking to appoint an experienced RMN who is committed to leading and delivering high quality patient care. The successful applicant will be committed to supporting service users and their families with their recovery and will be based on Rosemary Ward.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role are:
1. To provide high standards of mental health care for patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
2. To work closely with all members of the multi professional team to ensure that patient's mental health care needs are identified and managed appropriately.
3. To lead shifts and direct the team to support them in providing high quality care.
4. To provide mental health education to patient's and their carers.
5. To take a lead role on the role and promote good clinical practice and patient care.
6. To provide mental health education, where appropriate, to differing members of the MDT.
7. To develop individualised and collaborative care plans for patients.
8. To work collaboratively alongside patient's carers and work within the triangle of care model.
9. To be an active part of the ward leadership team and provide monthly supervision to colleagues (bands 2 and above).
10. To have up to date mentor (practice assessor) status and to work proactively and effectively with students.
11. To be innovative in quality improvement processes on the ward.
12. To have an extensive and well-developed knowledge of risk assessment and management and be able to implement this within the acute ward setting.
13. To have an in-depth, well-rounded knowledge of medication and be able to administer medication safely.
14. To deputise for the ward manager when required and understand the underpinning working processes and procedures for the ward.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification.
* Literacy and numeracy skills.
* Mentorship/Coaching Qualification.
Experience
* In depth post qualification experience of working in an acute mental health setting.
* Experience of working in a Charge Nurse role.
* Supervision and Appraisal of Junior Staff.
