E17 is a 10-bedded ward specialising in Paediatric Renal and Urology, part of the Nottingham Children's Hospital, the first Children's Hospital in Europe to be accredited the Pathway to Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre. We have a 1 year vacancy for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.
You must be an RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience of working in a Children's Hospital setting as a Band 5 or Band 6 nurse.
You must be able to lead a team, demonstrating excellent organizational and clinical skills.
You will be expected to co-ordinate care on the ward and deputise and support the Ward Manager. We are committed to supporting you and offer various professional development opportunities to enhance your renal nursing skills and knowledge.

1. Ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients and, in collaboration with the Ward Manager, identify common issues affecting care quality and devise action plans.
2. Support the Ward Manager in ensuring clinical audit takes place in line with the Trust's requirements.
3. Act as a point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives, and staff, addressing problems and needs.
4. Support the Ward Manager in developing and managing work rosters for safe staff cover.

The appropriate candidate would need experience of managing the ward daily (in charge of shifts regularly).

4. Maintain accurate records in accordance with Trust and national policy.
5. Be a major instrument of change within the clinical area.
6. Ensure high-quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients.
7. Work with the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to identify hazards and undertake risk assessments.
8. Encourage a culture of learning for students and junior staff.
9. Support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in ensuring best practices are shared within the Trust.
Person Specification
Communication and relationship
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrate basic IT skills.
* Effective communication with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
Training and Qualification
* Diploma or working towards a degree.
* Evidence of performance reviews.
* EPALS/APLS or willing to complete on next available course.
* A Degree in Children's Nursing.
* Formal leadership and management training.
Experience
* Experience as the Nurse in Charge.
* Evidence of Mentorship or SSSA.
* Experience working with renal patients.
Analytical and judgement skills
* Able to lead a team and respond to planned and unplanned situations.
* Ability to assess staff competence in clinical practice.
Planning and organisational skills
* Can prioritise and manage own time and workload.
* Able to action Trust and NHS policies in the absence of the Ward Manager.
