An exciting opportunity for a Emergency Department (ED) Clinical Director (2 PA's) / Consultant (10 PA's) has arisen at our Southend site, which has ambitious plans to transform service delivery and build a new ED in a Trust that is committed to an investment plan for the transformation of the Emergency Department of which the first phase has commenced.
As Clinical Director you will lead on innovation and oversee the expansion of the ED including a new Urgent Treatment Centre and Paediatric ED and will involve working across both 'MSE Group' and 'MSE Health Partnership' to develop pathways and opportunities for increased collaboration and integrated working, as well as delivering an exciting clinical strategy.

Main duties of the job
As our Clinical Director you will act for Emergency Medicine, working as part of the Care Group and Site Leadership Teams with responsibility for the Southend Acute site, supporting the MSE Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Programme so that you can build effective and sustainable relationships across the Care Group and maintain its visibility and accountability to the services.
As Clinical Director you will be expected to provide leadership and management support to the Consultant workforce, working collaboratively with Specialty Leads and also be required to commit to 10 PAs as ED Consultant, being committed to providing excellent shop floor coverage to enhance patient care and support to the more junior staff.
Your Consultant role includes responsibility for care of patients attending the ED, 'high quality care for every patient, every time', our ambitions are clear and we want to improve what we do whilst ensuring we spend money wisely.
The department has been fully refurbished and there is a brand new separate pediatric ED next to adult ED. We have regular consultant meetings as well as teaching and audit meetings which involve all of the staff in the ED to share information and gather feedback and ideas and we have access to clinical decision beds based on our own criteria.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MBBS, CCT in Emergency Medicine, FRCEM or equivalent professional qualification
* FRCEM or equivalent
* Unblemished GMC registration
Desirable criteria
* Postgraduate qualifications in either medical education or clinical governance
* Instructor status in Life Support Courses
* Evidence of postgraduate leadership training or qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty.
* Experience of managing governance agendas, including clinical governance and research governance
* Experience in building organisational capabilities including establishing a clear strategic vision and direction and translation into successful outcomes
* Experience of leading a department or division through significant change
Desirable criteria
* Active involvement in Undergraduate, GP and Paramedical Education
* Experience of managing postgraduate training
* Knowledge of the UK healthcare sector
Skills
Essential criteria
* Intellectual flexibility, including the ability to understand both operational detail and wider longer strategic visions and to articulate these to others; and the ability to cope with ambiguity and perform through uncertainty where necessary
