Practice Development Midwife
NHS AfC: Band 7
The Maternity Team in London Ambulance Service is looking for an experienced Practice Development Midwife to provide training and development for ambulance clinicians. The post holder will take a leading role in developing, maintaining and delivering training in different formats including electronic, face to face and multidisciplinary training. The role will include:
* Delivering training on the management of obstetric emergencies, imminent birth and care of the newborn to a range of different clinicians within London Ambulance Service.
* Delivering content on pregnancy and postnatal complications affecting women, birthing people and newborns.
* Addressing health inequalities and barriers to accessing health care within the training.
* Evaluating and making further recommendations to improve maternity training.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will lead the delivery of pre-hospital maternity education across the London Ambulance Service.
* Through collaboration with the Clinical and Quality Directorates, the post holder will manage and deliver the trust’s Maternity Training Strategy as part of the Clinical Strategy.
* The post holder will work closely with the Consultant Midwife and Lead Midwives to ensure professional standards are defined, achieved and robust processes are in place to ensure education and training fulfils the requirements of the service.
* The post holder will also be required to provide Joint Maternity Training between LAS staff and midwives working with local maternity providers.
* The post holder will be able to demonstrate a range of skills in analysing and interpreting complex situations and information, including expertise in the involvement of families and staff in difficult conversations and communication of complex and challenging information.
* The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and understand that this is a Pan London role that will require travel across the city to deliver training and education to our road and control room staff.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Current NMC registration as registered midwife
* Graduate qualification BSc/equivalent relevant to professional discipline
* Qualified instructor in PROMPT/NLS or similarly aligned recognised training course
* Master’s degree qualification relevant to professional discipline
* Human factors and situational awareness training
Experience
* Significant clinical experience covering a range of maternity care clinical settings
* Experience of practice development across a range of clinical settings
* Practised professional skills in all aspects of clinical midwifery
* Formal teaching practice within a clinical setting or in an HEI setting.
* Supporting staff requiring practice improvement programmes to maintain professional standards.
* Experience in both hospital and community setting
* Experience of practice development to providers of community midwifery and pre-hospital maternity care i.e. ambulance clinicians
Knowledge and skills
* Highly developed midwifery knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience
* High level of knowledge of statutory regulations from different governing bodies
* Teaching and presentation skills to accommodate different clinical grades and learning styles
* Maintain accurate data records for training
* Value diversity and difference, demonstrating integrity and honesty
* Plan, teach, deliver pre-hospital maternity training to a range of professionals involved in pre-hospital maternity care
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues
