Communications Officer, Corporate Affairs
* Contract type: One year fixed term contract, with potential for extension
* Location: London Bridge - Hybrid
* Salary: Up to £32,000
Your role: Reporting to the Senior Internal Communications Manager, and working within the wider Corporate Affairs team, you will be working on a raft of communications across News UK and its three business units: Times Media (including The Times & The Sunday Times), News Broadcasting (including talkSPORT, Virgin Radio UK, Times Radio and the Talk brand) and The Sun. Working collaboratively with a range of different stakeholders, you’ll play an instrumental role at the heart of the team telling the story of one of the UK’s leading and most innovative media companies.
This multidisciplinary communications officer role has a broad remit, at the heart of the News UK’s busy communications and commercial marketing team. It is a brilliant opportunity for someone with 18 to 24 months experience in a PR agency or in-house to fast-track their career, working with some of the biggest news and entertainment brands in international media across internal and external communications, creating content for the News UK intranet and corporate website, as well as creating video, organising events, monitoring coverage etc.
Your day to day will include:
* Creating engaging content for our owned channels, including the News UK intranet, website and social media channels, including LinkedIn and Twitter. You will regularly write in a range of styles, as well as manage and deliver internal and external newsletters and campaigns.
* Leading our daily and issues-led media monitoring, compiling reports for senior stakeholders and liaising with our media monitoring provider.
* Playing a key role in organising virtual and in-person events; being involved in the creation and editing of video and photographic content and contributing to our employer brand work.
* Supporting the press office function: drafting press releases, pitching stories to B2B and consumer media, researching media targets and reporting on results.
* Monitoring breaking news in the media and advertising industry and ensuring the senior team is informed in daily reports.
* Executing on our content strategy around the News UK commercial and employer brands across the News UK corporate site and LinkedIn channel.
* Providing additional support to the Public Affairs team when required.
What we’re looking for from you:
* A passionate interest in media, news and current affairs.
* 18-24 months experience in corporate/B2B communications, ideally within an agency or in-house in a Technology, Media or Telecoms environment, with experience in external and internal comms.
* Excellent writing ability: experience in writing content to engage a variety of different audiences in a variety of different styles - from intranet stories to social media posts to press releases.
* Superb attention to detail in all aspects of your work, as well as the ability to identify potential problems and proactively resolve them.
* Great organisational skills in creating, maintaining and updating media monitoring and other team tools.
* Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise, meeting deadlines efficiently and effectively.
* Video editing and photoshop software experience.
* A passion for the daily news agenda and a passion for current affairs and the news industry.
* Comfortable using data to measure and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of communications output, sharing industry best practices and keeping up to date with the media industry landscape.
* Recognition that in a fast-moving 24/7 media environment, some working out of core hours will be required from time to time.
