This role offers flexible working, remote / hybrid with the opportunity to work out of our Glasgow offices.
Our Pronto Deployment team provides mission critical software to UK emergency service agencies, with our primary focus being the Pronto Digital Policing app.
Pronto is the most popular mobile policing application in the UK, trusted by over half of the UK’s 45 police forces - and used by around 70,000 police officers on a daily basis. Pronto has been designed with and for front line operational users. As a result, it is an intuitive solution, with positive adoption, excellent user compliance and consistently positive feedback.
Based in the West End of Glasgow, we currently have around 100 employees. Our team started as Kelvin Connect in 2002, a spin-out company from the University of Glasgow. Now, as part of Motorola Solutions, we continue to expand with future opportunities in the UK and beyond.

The role of the Software Test Engineer is to work as part of an agile delivery team to verify and test the software solution.
Typical activities include:
1. Testing of software solutions / applications to ensure that the developed products meet the requirements and are free of defects
2. Writing, maintaining and executing Test cases
3. Reading and understanding requirements documentation provided by a Technical Project Manager, Customer, or another member of the Motorola Solutions team
4. Being involved in the process of clarifying and refining requirements
5. Providing estimated timescales for the testing of requirements
6. Producing and maintaining appropriate documentation for tracking quality metrics
7. Completing work to a high standard
8. Completing work in a timely manner
9. Attend Customer premises periodically to perform and witness on-site testing within emergency services customer control rooms
A Test Engineer may also be required to assist with the development of the software solutions / applications.
Basic Requirements
Core Competencies:
10. A high level of communication skills and technical understanding
11. Communication with core software development team to understand solution behaviour
12. Communication with Pronto delivery teams to understand quality issues and improve where required
13. A critical eye for detail, that challenges the status quo
14. Capable of delivering critical feedback without damaging relationships
15. To be outspoken when projects are producing sub-standard output
16. Be open to change, both with technologies and methodologies
17. Be responsible for the quality of the product
18. Continually assess workload and prioritise relevant work activities
Academic and Technical Qualifications:
Must have
19. 3 years UK residency is required for security check
20. A formal qualification (Degree) in Computing Science or equivalent experience
21. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
22. Experience of Java or another OO language
Desirable
23. 1+ years experience of commercial software testing
24. Knowledge of Agile methodologies
25. ISTQB certification
26. Knowledge of source code management technologies (e.g. GIT, SubVersion etc.)
27. Knowledge of software development / issue tracking systems (e.g. Jira, MS DevOps etc.)
28. Experience with Smartphone testing (primarily Android)
29. Experience with automated test frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Appium, Cypress etc.)
30. Experience of XML and XSLT
31. Experience with web service technologies (e.g. SOAP, REST, JSON etc)
32. Experience of SQL
Important - this role requires NPPV3 clearance, you must be a resident of the UK for a minimum of 3 years
