Document Controller – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure
Location: Midlands – Hybrid Working Available
Salary: £40,000 + Package
Employment Type: Permanent (PAYE)
The Company
A well-established civil engineering contractor is looking to bring a Document Controller on board to support multiple live projects across the Midlands. With a £200m+ turnover, they deliver large-scale infrastructure, reinforced concrete, and structural works for Tier 1 contractors, playing a key role in highways, rail, water, and industrial projects. With an ever-growing pipeline of work, they need a highly organised and detail-driven professional to take ownership of project documentation, compliance, and version control, ensuring seamless communication between project teams and external stakeholders. This role offers hybrid working, with the flexibility to work between site and home while staying actively engaged with the wider delivery team.
The Role
As a Document Controller, you’ll be the key point of contact for managing and distributing technical documents, drawings, RFIs, and approvals, ensuring everything is tracked, recorded, and stored efficiently. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Site Teams, you’ll play a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly. With multiple live sites to oversee, you’ll need to stay sharp, maintain tight control over versioning and compliance, and ensure the right people have the most up-to-date information at all times. This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, a methodical approach, and a solid understanding of construction workflows.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and maintain all project documentation, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
* Keep a tight grip on version control, making sure teams are working from the latest drawings and specifications.
* Act as the go-to person for document distribution, ensuring key stakeholders—Site Managers, Engineers, and Commercial Teams—have what they need, when they need it.
* Liaise with main contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to coordinate documentation flow and approvals.
* Support project teams with RFI tracking, technical submissions, and H&S documentation.
* Generate status reports and flag outstanding approvals to ensure workflows stay on track.
* Provide administrative support to keep project teams operating efficiently across multiple sites.
Key Requirements
* Experience as a Document Controller within construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
* Familiarity with construction document management systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Aconex, Asite, or similar).
* Strong understanding of construction workflows, compliance requirements, and document control processes.
* Ability to juggle multiple projects and maintain tight control over records and approvals.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general IT literacy.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with project teams, site staff, and external stakeholders.
* Meticulous attention to detail and a methodical, structured approach to document handling.
What’s in it for you?
* Hybrid working—split time between site and home for the best of both worlds.
* Work on major UK infrastructure projects with a well-established contractor.
* Competitive salary of £40,000 + package.
* Secure, long-term role with career progression opportunities.
* 25 days holiday + paid charity days.
* Pension scheme and additional benefits.
