Induction
At the beginning of your post, you will take part in an induction programme. The induction will introduce you to the Trust if you have not previously worked with us before. As part of the induction, you will be introduced to the workplace and informed of the requirements of the post, including your on-call commitments.
Supervision Arrangements
Clinical supervision is provided by Senior Medical Staff within the team as required. Weekly educational supervision is provided by the Consultant. There will be a minimum of one hour per week of formal supervision, and there will be ongoing clinical supervision as required. Supervision and support are provided by members of the MDT as outlined above on an ongoing basis during regular clinical duties.
Educational Opportunities
There will be an expectation that you attend local postgraduate teaching programmes as well as specific programmes that individual Directorates facilitate.
Support Resources
You will be provided with IT network access and have access to Library facilities.
Duties of the Post/Roles and Responsibilities of Trainee
1. Perform clinical assessment of individuals with mental health problems, including history taking, mental state examination, and physical examination.
2. Develop evaluation and formulation skills.
3. Assessment and management of psychiatric emergencies.
4. Understanding of pharmacological management of common mental health problems.
5. Develop interview and risk assessment skills.
6. Develop a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its application.
7. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including with non-medical prescribers.
Specific Duties (Depending upon post)
1. Assessment and management of individuals with mental illness.
2. Knowledge of pharmacological management of psychosis, including treatment-resistant and complex cases.
3. Develop an understanding of psychosocial interventions.
4. Have an appreciation of the importance of physical health issues in psychosis.
5. To assess, review and contribute to the management of inpatients.
6. To join and contribute to ward rounds.
7. Memory/outpatient clinic: 1-2 new patients per week and 2-3 follow up patients per week are seen by trainee under supervision of consultant.
8. Elderly day hospital: Review by trainee mainly on Thursdays.
9. To maintain up-to-date electronic and other medical records of high standard.
10. To attend CPA/Care Coordination meetings.
11. To provide support to CMHT and to see carers/relatives as required.

Inpatient, Community (Home visits), Outpatient appointments, Nursing Homes.
