JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to lead and manage a portion of Irving Shipbuilding's financial accounting and reporting. This is done through detailed analysis of the company's accounting records and discussions with the business. This position creates trust in the financial records of the company and helps develop junior staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Preparing period end journal entries and accruals, analysis of results, and invoice coding.
2. Mentoring junior staff through task assignment, review and debrief.
3. Meeting with the business to gain knowledge of what is happening in the business and to discuss accounting impacts.
4. Leading business initiatives to improve efficiencies within the business and strengthen controls.
5. Preparing corporate and management reports.
6. Other duties as assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation required.
3. 5+ years of relevant work experience.
4. In depth knowledge of accounting principles.
5. In depth knowledge/experience in financial reporting.
6. Highly self-motivated, innately curious, and solutions focused.
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
8. Continuous improvement mindset.
9. Post-designation experience, some indirect management experience (co-op students).
10. Ability to discuss financial reporting issues to different audiences in manners that will be understood.
