Job overview
We are looking to recruit a Principal Psychologist to provide leadership and specialist psychological provision to the adult acute assessment & treatment ward, psychiatric intensive care unit and CRHTT at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. The successful candidate will join clinical teams that are committed to improving the care of people with acute distress, and be part of an established psychology team that includes art psychotherapy and CAAPS.
The successful candidate will provide management, support and mentoring to junior colleagues within the service and will take a lead in a key aspect of the acute improvement work, in collaboration with the consultant clinical psychologist. You will play a key role in shaping the future of acute care in the region.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychology service to individuals and their families on the acute assessment and treatment ward, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team at Coity Clinic, Princess of Wales Hospital. They will also take a lead on the development of psychologically informed care in home treatment teams across the MH&LD care group.
They will supervise and support the psychological assessment and interventions provided by attached practitioner psychologists, trainees and assistant psychologists, as well as offering consultation and developing formulations in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary teams to understand and manage complex presentations.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Doctoral, or equivalent, professional training in applied psychology
Knowledge
* Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision in order to support qualified and trainee staff with regard to psychological therapy.
* Highly-developed knowledge of more than one psychological model.
Experience
* Assessed experience of working as a qualified psychologist in roles involving complex clinical cases.
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients’ psychological care and treatment.
* Experience of supervising psychologists and psychological therapists from other professions.
* Experience of planning and organising a broad range of complex activities and programmes.
Skills
* A commitment to the evaluation of services and a wish to continue to develop expertise in the service area.
* Ability to demonstrate leadership and influencing skills.
