To develop and deliver a first class performance service to 1st Team players to enhance performance and squad availability. The postholder will lead the service ensuring 1st Team Players are physically prepared, optimally conditioned and able to perform at their highest level.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Co-ordinate and lead strength and conditioning staff for 1st Team performance including recruitment, appraisal and performance management; ensuring team CPD is up to date.
2. Fitness Programming: Design, implement, and monitor individualized fitness programs for first-team players, ensuring they are aligned with the demands of match schedules, player positions, and individual needs.
3. Pre-season and In-season Conditioning: Lead the physical conditioning of players during pre-season and throughout the competitive season. This includes working together with the strength and conditioning team and others, to create and deliver performance and conditioning sessions, on field and off field fitness sessions, and injury prevention protocols.
4. Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation: Work closely with the medical and other teams to develop injury prevention strategies and lead on the rehabilitation of injured players, ensuring they are fit to return to play.
5. Performance Analysis & Monitoring: Ensure the effective utilisation of performance analysis tools to track players' physical outputs during training and matches. Monitor recovery and fatigue levels, making recommendations for rest, recovery, and load management.
6. Player Development: Provide feedback and guidance to players on improving strength, fitness, flexibility, and overall conditioning. Work with the coaching team to identify areas for physical development within the squad.
7. Collaboration with Coaching and Medical Staff: Maintain effective communication with the first-team coaching staff, medical team, and other performance professionals to ensure a holistic approach to player development and fitness.
8. Nutritional Support: Work alongside the nutritionist to educate players on the importance of nutrition in performance and recovery.
9. Education & Innovation: Ensure the team stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in sports science and conditioning. Regularly assess and evolve training methods with the team to ensure Burton Albion’s players maintain a competitive edge.
10. Matchday Support: Provide on-site support during matchdays, including warm-ups, managing fitness-related player concerns, and offering post-match recovery guidance.

About The Candidate
BSc (Hons) Sports Science/Strength and Conditioning
BASES accredited (or working towards this)
At least 3-5 years previous experience in football or elite sport including experience of managing a team
Experience of training/rehabilitation principles and a sound understanding of rehabilitation processes
Familiarity with fitness and performance monitoring tools (e.g. STATSports)
Competence in the use of IT programmes and online systems
Attention to detail, organisation and time management skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with players, MDT and coaches in a professional manner
Demonstrate consistent leadership and management skills
Ability to work in a high pressurised environment with a flexible approach to working hours
Adaptability to changing environment at short notice
Ability to set and maintain high personal and professional standards
