Come and join the BMJ Dermatology Team of the year 2025 in Hereford! Our bespoke, newly refurbished dermatology department with onsite surgical rooms is situated in the heart of Hereford City. We can offer unrivalled work life balance being a stone's throw from the Herefords' cafes and shopping and a short walk away from the main hospital. Being situated in the heart of our community we are hard working, innovative and passionate about providing a wide range of NHS dermatology services to our community.
Nestling in the shadow of England's border with Wales, Herefordshire's varied offer much to discover for those of all ages: discover a bustling cathedral city, fine market towns, picturesque villages, ancient castles, modern music art and culture, churches, areas of woodland and agricultural areas that include cider apple orchards and hop yards. There are excellent schools, both state and independent. The major towns and cities close to Herefordshire, such as Bristol, Cheltenham, Cardiff, Malvern and Stratford, as well as the two neighbouring cathedral cities of Worcester and Gloucester, are all easily accessible by road and rail.
The Dermatology Department which services the population of Herefordshire, Powys (in Wales) and Shropshire border is unique in its cross border working and in so many other ways.
AAC Date: 10th March 2025
Main duties of the job
We are interested in Consultant Dermatologists with general skills and experience who may also like to develop a sub speciality interest that compliments those of the current team. Patch Test Lead and skin cancer would be examples.
Other areas of further development for the department are:
1. 2WW and urgent suspected skin cancer clinics. Over 70% of our work load is due to skin cancer referrals. This is due to the high rate of skin cancer we experience in Herefordshire and Powys.
2. Teledermatology
3. Community dermatology clinics - increased integration with local GPs aiming to reduce referrals and increase community dermatology knowledge and skills. Many GPs in the area are very proactive regarding dermatology and have post graduate qualifications from Cardiff.
4. Ongoing training and support for our inflammatory and skin cancer nurse specialists
5. Training and Education - We wish to develop our teaching programmes to GPs, GPVTS, CMT doctors, and medical students.
If you are seeking personal development opportunities, whether it be clinical, managerial, sub-specialty, medical education or simply a better work life balance, we can support you. With full and part time job plans available which will include dedicated PA's in specific subspecialty interests we'd be more than happy to discuss your needs. Candidates are encouraged to visit/contact the Department and discuss the post with prospective colleagues.
