Job Opportunity
We have an exciting and unique opportunity for someone to join our Environmental Health Team as an Animal Welfare Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone; we will invest in training and developing the right person to have a career in animal welfare.
Our Environmental Health Team plays a key role in protecting the environment as well as people and animals within the communities. The Animal Welfare role is crucial to the protection of animals, supporting people to be responsible pet and animal owners. Day to day, you will be dealing with a wide range of tasks, such as:
1. The licensing of animal activities
2. Investigating complaints about barking dogs and dog aggression
3. Collecting stray dogs
4. Problem-solving on a whole range of animal-related challenges
While no formal qualifications or previous experience in this field of work are essential, a demonstrable knowledge of dealing with animals would be an advantage. You will need to be comfortable and confident with handling animals as well as communicating and working with members of the public and business owners in respect of compliance with the law and promoting good practice.
We are seeking someone who is kind, can show empathy, and seeks resolution. Someone who is motivated to learn, can collaborate with others, and values honesty and authenticity. You will work closely with our Animal Welfare Officer, based out of our Andover office. However, the post will work across the whole of Test Valley; therefore, a valid driving license and access to a vehicle will be essential.

We pride ourselves on our open and friendly culture and offer a professional, positive, and stable working environment. This post is career graded to allow for career development. Progression through the salary will be based upon gaining/having certain job-specific skills and required qualifications to undertake licence inspection work, as detailed in the job description and person specification.
You can find out more about the role in this video, from our Animal Welfare Officer.

The interview process will take place in two stages over two different days. We are keen to meet as many of our applicants as possible; therefore, we will have an initial meet and greet day, inviting selected applicants to come in, meet some of the team, and answer a few initial questions. Successful applicants will then be invited for a more traditional interview the following week.
