We’re hiring five Field Rangers to join our Northern and Southern Ranger teams to carry out and support practical work throughout the Lake District National Park, ensuring the network of paths and landscapes are maintained and future-proofed for people and the environment.

The role
Working outside in the Lake District National Park, you will carry out high-quality practical work that enhances the environmental and recreational fabric of the area. This is a varied and exciting role that will see you working in some of the most spectacular countryside in the world.
Our work includes maintaining and improving public rights of way, other paths, and Open Access land, as well as practical activities to ensure our owned properties are well looked after.
The Field Ranger role is varied and diverse, with most of your time spent undertaking practical work. You’ll also be preparing job plans, which will involve using computers and our IT systems.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Maintain and improve public rights of way, other paths, and Open Access land.
2. Carry out practical activities to ensure our owned rural properties are well looked after.
3. Work with and support other staff (including apprentices), partner organisations, volunteers, and contractors to devise and deliver practical work.
4. Be responsible for the maintenance and safe use of vehicles, plant, machinery, and other tools.
5. Undertake visitor management work, such as patrols, clearing litter, and advising visitors.
About you
You’ll have a proven ability to deliver practical solutions to problems on the ground and possess good knowledge and experience of land management skills. You’ll be comfortable working successfully alone or in a team in all areas of the National Park.
You’ll have good communication skills and the ability to work with and motivate volunteers and apprentices.
You will have computer and IT skills to maintain digital records of work you’ve completed, as well as an awareness of Health and Safety.
