Job Description Summary We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Project Manager to join the Dowty Engineering Platforms and Projects team to lead the engineering activities related to new technology introduction research and development projects and/or engineering sustainment activities related to in-service propeller systems. For new technology project(s) you will lead and support the engineering activities that will advance propeller related technologies to meet future needs of aviation sustainability, supporting the overall future of flight strategy within Dowty and the wider GE Aerospace organisation. For in-service sustainment platform support you will be the technical point of contact for your propeller platform for the airframer, operators, supply chain and within the Dowty business, you will lead all engineering related activities including support of in-service, quality and manufacturing investigations, manufacturing issues resolution, identification of in-service trends, initiation and management of design changes and support of repair activities. Both project types will have a high mechanical and manufacturing content. Experience in the areas of composite design, tooling design, composite manufacture, structural testing and hydromechanical control systems will be essential to the role. Key Responsibilities - Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and control of assigned engineering project(s) including risk and opportunity management. - Control of technical requirements from customers, Dowty and regulatory authorities. - Develop robust project scope definition, estimates of work, plans and schedules required to deliver project commitments within financial and contractual constraints. - Obtaining budget approval, kick-off authorisation and leading Baseline Change Requests. - Technical project point of contact for internal and external customers. - Leading cross-functional teams and co-ordination of project requirements to meet project deliverables. - Support bid and proposal estimates using work breakdown structure methodologies to estimate the labour and material requirements, and support the company strategic planning process, including annual budgets, spend forecasts, resource planning and funding requirements. - Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews. - Administration and control of design changes. - Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments clearly and concisely to stakeholders. - Leading and supporting lean activities and events. Qualifications/Requirements - Engineering degree in mechanical, systems, aerospace engineering, or qualified to an equivalent level. - Project management experience in an Aerospace or similarly regulated environment. - Demonstrated ability to integrate and lead cross-functional teams, ranging from but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing. - Demonstrated ability and experience of working with customers. - A confident and articulate communicator, both verbally and written. Desired Skills & Characteristics - Ability to coordinate several projects and engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedule commitments. - Demonstrated competency in using standard Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools such as MS Project. - Technical background in complex systems including mechanical, aircraft control and/or electronic control systems, and a working knowledge of hydromechanical control systems would be advantageous. - Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a working knowledge of lean or six sigma. - Awareness of the aviation regulatory environment, including civil certification requirements, safety, environmental requirements including a working knowledge of operating under a Part 21 Design Organisation Approval would be advantageous.
