Civil Engineer - Highways & Infrastructure - Shrewsbury
Up to £40k per annum

The Civil Engineer Opportunity
Due to our client's continued success and service growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer in Shrewsbury. Candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding and problem solving approach to highways and drainage solutions in the design world.
We are seeking a candidate with enthusiasm and ambition to work in a driven and client-focused design team. In this role, you will work in a multi-disciplinary group and lead the engineering input on an exciting and varied portfolio of infrastructure schemes in the development sector. This will include the assessment and design of site levels, highways, sewers, SuDS, and flood risk management infrastructure, from feasibility through to the construction phase.
Less experienced candidates with appropriate Civil Engineering qualifications and at least 2 years design experience will be considered for the role. You will demonstrate a willingness to learn and self-develop, which are essential for an engineer. You will be comprehensively trained and mentored throughout your early career up to the professional qualification stage.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate client-focused communication skill and able to effectively prioritise and manage workloads, with minimal supervision. You will have experience in leading tasks and designing schemes, possessing a good knowledge of industry best practice, guidance, and standards. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service within the business.
Civil Engineer Person Specification
The position is office-based with administrative support, and you will be required to manage client relationships, provide fee quotes, arrange appointments, and manage your work to meet deadlines under your own initiative. You will be managed within a team of engineers, land surveyors, and building surveyors, with your line manager being the Head of Engineering. You will also be expected to contribute to marketing the service to prospective clients and winning work.
The ideal Civil Engineer candidate will hold a minimum of a HNC/HND or degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, with relevant professional qualifications being desirable. If you do not hold an IEng or CEng qualification, you will be expected to demonstrate a willingness or progress with pursuing a qualification with a professional body. Candidates who are currently studying as part of a degree apprenticeship or similar qualification will also be considered.
Experience or expertise in the following core skills for the Civil Engineer is desirable:
1. Feasibility assessments and reports
2. Outline and detail drainage designs (SuDS and foul water) for various types and scales of developments
3. Modelling of drainage networks using either Flow or MicroDrainage
4. Road and junction design, including detailed design for construction
5. Experience of S38, S278 agreements, and technical approvals
6. Consultations with various authorities (e.g. Highways England, EA, local councils, utility companies)
7. Site walkovers/assessments
8. Interpretation of geo-technical reports for drainage designs
9. AutoCAD applications, Civil3D and/or Causeway PDS
10. Flood Risk Assessments
11. Good working knowledge of CDM 2015
12. A full driving licence is required
