Surgical Support Coordinator

Job Overview
The Surgical Services Management Team are looking to appoint a Surgical Support Coordinator to support the provision of high-quality patient care through dedicated administrative and clerical support and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will join a team of three Coordinators and three Support Coordinators, acting as the point of contact for all administrative and clerical issues relating to patients’ pathway of care, tracking and supporting them from referral to treatment and discharge.
The post holders will provide a patient-focused service that supports the Surgical Coordinators and clinical staff in the provision of efficient integrated pathways that enable the best use of resources and ensure that patients are fit, willing, and able to be treated and that they are treated in the right place, by the right person, at the right time.
Specialities covered within the team are Breast, Bariatric, Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, Colorectal, Upper GI, Urology, and Vascular. The post holders will provide cross cover for other team members and actively participate in the sharing of skills and experience within the team, aiding the spread of good practice throughout the team.

Main Duties of the Job
* Demonstrate advanced communication and organisational skills, use own initiative, and show problem-solving skills.
* Exhibit excellent attention to detail and a passion for patient care.
* Ensure efficient and effective use of the theatre and endoscopy sessions.
* Play a central role within this service and work closely with NHS colleagues, patients, and the general public.
* Manage waiting lists in accordance with the Patient Access Policy and achieve government and JAG waiting time standards.
* Be responsible for the addition and removal from waiting lists and recording all relevant patient information. This may be in response to a clinician, patient, or management request.
* Monitor the Patient Target List (PTL) daily to ensure government access standards are not breached and escalate any potential breaches, taking appropriate action to resolve capacity issues.
* Manage waiting lists for patients on the cancer pathway who require endoscopy procedures and/or further surveillance appointments.

Person Specification
Education
* NVQ3 or equivalent qualification or experience
* Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development
Experience
* Proven ability to provide administrative services

Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to deal with routine (although occasionally complex and sensitive) matters with tact.
* Ability to manage own workload effectively.
* Ability to exercise own judgement and occasionally analyse situations to identify a way forward.
* Ability to make decisions.
* Knowledge of NHS performance standards relating to Cancer and 18-week referral to treatment times.
* Standard keyboard skills.
* Standard level use of IT packages including Microsoft Office suite.
* Ability to use relevant bespoke health or Trust IT products such as e-Rostering software or ESR.
