A quick look at the role.
The Mechanical Technician will effectively drive engineering activities at Biffa MBT facility to deliver all operational aspects of the facility. The role holder will be responsible for driving plant availability through ensuring all PPM’s, reactive maintenance, engineering and process improvements are carried out and implemented in a timely manner. The role holder will drive best practice on a daily basis through high engineering, compliance and H&S standards.
We are looking for the successful candidate to have familiarity with:
1. Pump operations and working off.
2. Welding.
3. Condition monitoring.
4. PPMs.
5. Understanding and interpreting OEM’s, Schematic drawings, layout drawings.
6. Reactive works.
7. CMMS programmes.
8. Hydraulic systems.
9. Lifting operations.
10. Conveyor systems.

11. Providing high operational availability, and an efficient breakdown repair service through diagnosis running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements are conducted within minimum timescales.
12. Carrying out installation work to the required standards.
13. Ensuring productivity and availability exceeds minimum defined standards, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.
14. Developing and implement a programme of planned preventative maintenance and inspection to minimise downtime, provide records of recurrent faulting and develop engineered solutions to these issues.
15. Liaising with internal process engineers, Scada controllers and external contractors on specific repairs/maintenance work.
16. Keeping abreast of changes to Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation and Company Policies to ensure defined standards and best practices are implemented.
17. Ensuring compliance with all Company policies, processes and procedures.
18. Reviewing maintenance activities, implementing necessary corrective actions as required.
19. Working alongside the Electrical Technician to drive the engineering team in line with Shift Supervisor and pursue daily engineering issues that affect production and plant availability.
20. Raising work orders for correct works, and ensure all work carried out of shift have work orders and signed off correctly.
Requirements
Here’s what we require:
21. Engineering Qualification Level 3 City and Guilds/NVQ
22. Previous health and safety training, IOSH
23. HNC/D Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
24. IOSHH Managing Safely (desirable)
25. Supervisory experience
26. DSEAR Awareness (desirable)
27. Proven Welding experience (desirable)
28. The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and, most importantly, play well with others.
