Job Overview
We are seeking someone with an interest in, and experience of, evaluation of clinical research evidence to support healthcare service commissioning. This could be a great opportunity for someone with the relevant skills who is looking for a change in career direction or wants to broaden their horizon.
You will join the Clinical Effectiveness team of NHS Devon providing critical assessment of evidence across a range of healthcare interventions such as drugs, procedures, devices, and diagnostics to help inform decision-making processes throughout the Devon healthcare system. This also includes assessing likely financial and service impacts.
The team comprises experienced evidence reviewers and governance professionals. Technical skills in the team are high and it is a good environment to develop critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and financial modelling to a high level. It is also a great place to learn how the health system is managed and the national strategic drivers that influence change.
Main Duties of the Job
Reporting to an experienced evidence reviewer, you will undertake identification and critical appraisal of clinical literature to produce evidence reviews to inform commissioning policy decisions and care pathways.
You will present summaries of your assessments to small working groups and at larger formal committees, engaging in dialogue with subject specialists as well as generalist policy makers. As your experience grows, you will sometimes represent the team on multidisciplinary project teams where you would be the lead for evidence assessment. You will need to be familiar with techniques of critical appraisal and literature searching and possess the ability to produce a well-written synthesis of the evidence base set within the context of national strategic drivers. Previous practical experience of undertaking literature-based research is essential.
The evaluations you produce will often include a consideration of the health economics and the budget impact of health interventions, so a willingness to undertake analyses and apply these in decision making is required.
