What will I learn through the apprenticeship programme?
With 30 years’ experience of delivering market-leading repairs and maintenance services, Mears is trusted to deliver more than 6,000 repairs daily to a portfolio of more than 1,000,000 homes nationwide.
Mears Careers National Apprenticeship Scheme is designed to empower and challenge you; you’ll be trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset. During your apprenticeship you will have a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn and will receive formal training coupled with working alongside our skilled workforce who will inspire and train you in the practical elements of the trade.
As a Facilities Multi-skilled Operative your work will be varied and involve using a diverse range of skills to enable you to be involved in planned works e.g., The contract for West Lothian FM looks after 3 High Schools and 3 Primary schools, this includes all the fabric of the buildings from electrical repairs, changing of lights, plumbing and heating repairs and general maintenance of doors, occasional painting and decorating and the planned preventive maintenance tasks including compliance of the buildings.
During your apprenticeship you will learn and develop a range of skills which includes Plumbing and tiling, basic electrical installation and fault-finding, carpentry, painting, decorating, and plastering.
Roles in Facilities Management are physical in nature and may involve lifting and moving equipment, working at height, and working indoors and outdoors.
What you need to have:
1. Functional skills in both Math and English.
2. The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks.
3. Strong communication skills.
4. Be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships.
5. We are looking for people with integrity, who are self-reliant and highly motivated, with a natural willingness to get involved, someone who can solve problems and who takes pride in their work.
