This Trust Grade doctor (CT1 level) position in urology is based in Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital but some days will be expected to work in Scunthorpe General Hospital, with transport provided between the two sites.
The role includes caring for urology elective and emergency ward patients, assisting in theatres, and learning core urology procedures. Additionally, the post holder will cross-cover the general surgical on-call SHO rota and is expected to attend departmental teaching and audits. Although the post is not recognized for training, Trust Grade doctors are encouraged to apply for study leave and attend relevant courses and build their portfolio for higher training.
Supervision and support are provided by Consultants and Specialty Doctors who are available for patient management. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in urology and develop essential skills in a supportive environment.

a. Unforeseen Duties
In exceptional circumstances, eg colleagues’ sickness, the post holder may be required to undertake duties more frequently than anticipated, but in such circumstances every effort will be made to contract locums. If it is necessary to cover colleagues’ duties, internal locum rates will be paid. It has been agreed between the professions and the department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this subsection are exceptional and, in particular, that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
b. Discharge Summaries
The postholder will be trained in the techniques of composing discharge summaries which should be completed and sent promptly to the General Practitioners. Specific arrangements for these summaries vary with each Consultant.
c. Policies/Protocols
Postholders are expected to acquaint themselves with relevant policies which may be changed from time to time.
d. Cardiac Arrest
All doctors are expected to familiarise themselves with the cardiac arrest protocol, which can be obtained from the medical secretaries.
e. Audit
You may be required to attend the departmental audit sessions and become involved in this process.
f. Hours Monitoring and the New Deal
All training junior doctors will be required to monitor their hours of work and rest during a set period at least once during a six month period of employment. Although this post is not recognised for training, you may be requested to complete monitoring so an overview of the rota can be obtained.

· To develop the skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing
· To master several basic medical/surgical techniques
· To improve communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues
· To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities.
