A vibrant and supportive primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs is looking for a Youth Behaviour Support Assistant. They are committed to helping every child achieve their full potential through a personalised and holistic approach to education. The team is passionate about creating positive change and inspiring students to thrive both academically and personally.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children with SEMH needs. The successful candidate will be a strong role model, providing support and encouragement to students in both academic and vocational topics. You will play a key role in managing challenging and anti-social behavior, helping students develop appropriate social skills and coping strategies.
Responsibilities:
* Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, including those exhibiting challenging and anti-social behavior, in a classroom setting.
* Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons across a range of subjects, including both academic and vocational topics.
* Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging students to develop confidence and independence.
* Support students with their emotional and behavioral development through effective communication, empathy, and behavior management strategies.
* Implement and reinforce individualised behavior plans to help students manage their actions and emotions.
* Assist in monitoring and recording students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
* Supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as breaks and lunchtime, ensuring their safety and well-being.
* Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience working with children with social, emotional, and mental health needs, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
* Proven ability to manage challenging and anti-social behavior in a positive and constructive manner.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and challenges.
* A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm and supportive in difficult situations.
* A background in sports or physical education is desirable, as it can be beneficial in promoting teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle among students.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
