Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT) for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Sciences Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to work on rotation through our Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections, with the opportunity to cross train in Clinical Chemistry and Immunology, to help us continue to deliver exceptional, high-quality integrated care to our patients.
The successful candidate will have:
* HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* A good understanding of a Blood Sciences Department
* Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
* Willingness to learn and develop new skills
The Blood Sciences Department is committed to providing training opportunities to help staff to develop the skills and knowledge they require to excel in their career as a Biomedical Scientist.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for performing a range of scientific procedures on biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and to develop and maintain competency in all sections of the Blood Sciences Laboratory as required: Anticoagulation, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Immunology.
A 24/7 service is provided for Blood Transfusion, Haematology and Clinical Chemistry. Therefore the post holder will be expected to fully participate in the extended core hours and shift system once competent.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent, accredited by the IBMS for the purpose of HCPC registration
* HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist
* Evidence of current Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to a wide range of people
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
* Good scientific and technical skills
* Good level of computer literacy
Experience
* Previous experience of working in an NHS laboratory
You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
