Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a town planner with around 2-6 years’ experience to be based in our Bristol office.
Lichfields is the pre-eminent planning and development consultancy in the UK and is recognised as one of the ‘Best Places to Work in Property’ by Property Week magazine. We are looking for a bright, creative and committed person who can deliver high quality advice to our clients and help us grow.
We are owned by an employee benefit trust and run and managed for the benefit of its staff with no obligations to external shareholders. Our profits are reinvested into the business and shared with staff through bonuses.
We are a pro-development consultancy and work with all sectors of the development industry (public and private) to assist them in formulating and implementing development schemes. You would be involved in a variety of projects to support the planning and development consultancy work of Lichfields, and to advise clients independently on the promotion of development schemes through Local Plans and planning applications. We have a significant amount of work in the tourism/leisure and residential sectors.
Responsibilities
Your workload will be broad in scope and involve shaping and assessing the case for development projects. This will include preparing planning applications and appeals; site appraisals; planning strategies; and development plan representations. You will provide advice and guidance on planning and land use to a variety of clients including leading tourism operators, developers and investment institutions as well as local planning authorities throughout all stages of the planning process.
Lichfields will provide a great environment for you to develop your career working on a wide range of projects and supported by our learning and development programme. You may currently be in another consultancy role or working in local government or elsewhere. If you have good planning expertise and a desire to succeed we can help you realise your ambitions.
Qualifications
Candidates will have a first or second degree qualification in economics, statistics, geography, planning or related subjects, and have achieved or be working towards chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI). We will expect all candidates to have at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) at undergraduate degree level and provide full information on A level, GCSE (or equivalent) and other qualifications.
Candidates should demonstrate good analytical, presentation, and writing skills, together with a clear commitment to working in the planning and property development field. The role will require working on a number of projects, so a proven ability to manage your own time, workload and problem solve is critical. Ideally, you will also be able to demonstrate the skills needed to market, win new work and innovate as these are important elements of this role.
Benefits
Lichfields offers a highly competitive benefits package which is subject to negotiation. We provide a good quality office environment, and are a very sociable company making it a great place to work.
As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to ensuring that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity or marital status, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable. We aspire to have a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds to apply and join us.
