Your next role
This is an extremely hands-on apprenticeship role where you will be learning ‘on the job’.
The primary role is to support the repair and mantenance of council premises to works associated with other building trades to Swindon Borough Council standards and within Swindon Borough Council training matrix
The role will involve the following tasks:
1. Carrying out repairs to the plumbing and central heating systems.
2. Understanding and Maintaining plumbing and drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains.
3. Maintaining high levels of water hygiene within a building.
4. Understanding and maintaining plant and, safety systems and equipment.
5. Demonstrating and implementing energy, environment and suitable practices.
6. Understanding and maintaining grounds and external fabric of the building such as drainage and guttering.
7. Demonstrating and understanding the control of resources and stock.
8. Understanding and demonstrating the principles of planned preventative maintenance.
9. Understanding how to prepare for refurbishment or deep clean of equipment and surfaces.
10. Understanding the importance of customer service.
About you
In addition, we are also looking for people who have the following:
11. 4 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including Maths and English or able to demonstrate predicted grades.
12. Good Numeracy and Literacy skills.
13. Ability to learn and to apply knowledge in a practical setting.
14. Willingness to learn to drive - hold at least a provisional driving license, or will obtain a provisional driving license upon appointment and pass the SBC transport driver assessment.
15. Some experience of dealing with the public.
16. Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
17. Can demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems.
18. Shows a basic understanding of the work of the relevant trade.
