Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) and the option of a subspecialty interest that complements departmental needs (non-essential). This is a replacement Less than Full time permanent post (8 PAs) to commence September 2024.
We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic colleague to join our Paediatric Department. The post will be based primarily in the paediatric ED department and paediatric outpatients. The post holder will cover the paediatric emergency department (PED) on a 1:5 week rotating basis, which includes a rapid access clinic and telephone advice service for local GPs. Outpatient clinics will be part of the timetable during non-PED attending weeks, and there is an opportunity for this role to include sub-specialty clinics.
The post is built around an 8 programmed activity (PA) job plan.
Main duties of the job
The Croydon Health Services Paediatric Emergency Department sees around 36,000 children per annum. The number of paediatric patients attending the Paediatric Emergency Department has increased by 24.5% between 2021 and 2022.
We are looking to enhance our consultant workforce within the paediatric emergency department by recruiting to 2 Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant posts.
The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing the care of paediatrics accessing urgent and emergency care within Croydon. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general emergency medicine workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
Person Specification
Experience
* Broad Neonatal and General Paediatric experience and understanding of Clinical Governance
* Resuscitation of sick infants and children
* Adequate training in Child Safeguarding
* APLS and/or NLS instructor status
Management and leadership
* Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
* Experience in day-to-day organisation of services in a busy teaching hospital
* Formal management training
* Involvement in setting up services and service delivery
