Purpose of the Role As Legal Counsel, you will support the Global Media practice area, working at the forefront of the dynamic media industry. In this role, you will provide expert legal guidance to commercial teams, senior lawyers, and key stakeholders, ensuring smooth negotiations and strong legal frameworks for agreements with clients and suppliers. Your responsibilities will include advising on commercial contracts, structuring deals, and securing the most favourable legal and commercial terms for dentsu. A key aspect of this role involves assessing supplier and client contracts with a sharp eye for risk, efficiently identifying critical issues while balancing business objectives. You will play a vital role in shaping agreements and projects, offering strategic legal insights that safeguard dentsu’s interests while driving commercial success. Key Responsibilities Advising on contract compliance, including questions of contract interpretation, data protection queries and overall strategy to the Media practice area and other stakeholders at various levels of the organisation to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Managing existing client and supplier contractual matters, including amendments, extensions, and ancillary agreements, including DPAs and data access agreements. Providing support on the technology and data aspects of commercial agreements across a variety of areas, liaising with other members of the dentsu legal and compliance team. Working closely with other practice areas lawyers and the wider dentsu legal and compliance team to implement best practice and guidance in relation to development and deployment of strategy, new commercial initiatives, precedent positions, local implementation agreements, processes and policies for local market legal teams and commercial teams. Supporting the development and delivery of training and legal risk management initiatives, compliance strategies, legal policies and processes to standardise Group conduct across the practice areas to manage legal risk. Delivering legal support (templates, advice, risk management, subject matter knowledge) to accelerate and underpin the expansion of the Media practice area strategy. Qualifications Skills Law society or accredited bar organisation member and law firm or in-house experience (3 – 4 years’ PQE) A commercial lawyer with experience in technology, intellectual property, data protection and corporate law; ideally experience with services agreements in a media or technology context. Strong legal drafting skills, ideally across multiple jurisdictions Media or technology industry experience Strategic and commercial mindset, with an ability to assess and advise on legal and commercial risk. Can take initiative and be pro-active on addressing new matters or challenges and can work autonomously as required. What we offer This is a permanent role.
