Your Next Challenge
We're on the lookout for a dynamic and skilled Finance-Operations Controller to join our rapidly growing organization. This pivotal role is designed to enhance our financial control capabilities and ensure seamless operations across the Group.
* Setting up the function within Finance, with its prime objective to enhance and facilitate automated transactional and closing balance reconciliations across the organisation.
* Engaging a variety of stakeholders across the business including Front Office, Finance, Treasury, Operations and IT.
* Capturing requirements to design, build, test and implement new reconciliations, auto-matching rules, with workflows and breaks management and escalation processes.
* Design, build, test and implement straight through data flows to our reconciliation software system, understand limitations with current data sets and investigate how these can be enhanced by changes to the data extraction process or at the point of data input and following through with process changes to support cleaner faster reconciliations.
* Setting up exception management workflows across the organisation ensuring ownership and accountability for investigating and resolving breaks in the source systems is clearly defined, documented, and agreed by all parties.
* Identifying new reconciliations and managing the design, build, test and implementation of each new reconciliation.
* Ongoing oversight and management of all reconciliation processes, ensuring that the reconciliations are completed on time and breaks are being managed effectively in a timely manner including KPI reporting to Senior management across the company.
The successful candidate will become involved in project work to automate current procedures, improve the control environment, and will work with several senior people across the Payments and Banking Services divisions of the Group.
Responsibilities:
Reconciliations & Function Setup:
* Establish the Finance function to enhance automated transactional and closing balance reconciliations.
* Cover trade level reconciliations for derivatives, valuations, cash movements, and balances.
* Develop exception management workflows to ensure accountability for resolving breaks in source systems.
* Address blockers and challenges, collaborating with other teams as needed.
Ongoing Management of Reconciliations:
* Monitor and oversee all reconciliations, ensuring timely completion and resolution of breaks.
* Ensure adherence to matching rules, break workflows, and exception management.
* Provide management information (MI) to support the function and senior management.
* Identify, design, build, test, and implement new reconciliations.
* Optimize tool usage to achieve cost savings through automation.
* Assist with internal and external audits, providing analysis and explanations.
* Continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency and control.
Reconciliation Software Expertise:
* Serve as the expert on reconciliation software, providing training and escalating issues to the vendor.
* Monitor vendor support and escalate shortcomings to the account manager.
* Manage system updates and communicate downtime effectively.
* Control and monitor system access in line with organizational standards.
* Ensure the function is the center of excellence for reconciliations, providing training and support.
Team Management and Being A Team Player:
* Manage the team, including annual appraisals and personal development.
* Ensure procedures are documented and updated regularly.
* Ensure data accuracy in reconciliations aligns with Finance month-end reports.
* Collaborate with Balance Sheet Control and other Finance teams to enhance or create new reconciliations for faster Finance close.
* Proactively help develop plans and priorities for the team.
* Maintain a welcoming attitude to encourage employees to approach the Finance team with queries or concerns.
* Be open and share knowledge within Finance and across the business.
Project Work and Analysis
* Drive the month-end acceleration project, supporting key initiatives.
* Provide insights on the impact of proposed projects on costs and financial performance.
* Identify and explain trends, focusing on underlying drivers and impact on working capital.
* Lead the automation of processes and reconciliations.
* Assist in group-wide project work.
* Develop and maintain strong internal controls.
* Support ad-hoc analysis for Divisional Heads, Executive Team, and Board.
What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
Knowledge and Experience:
* Qualified Accountant or similar professional qualification preferable, but not essential, similar experience in previous roles will also be recognised.
* 5+ years experience of working within financial services and regulated entities.
* Experience of presenting to individuals or groups at all levels of the organisation and to customers including being able to run meetings and workshops.
* Experience around driving forward data architecture and target operating model design.
* Experience working within an agile project management framework to scope and deliver projects, manage and take accountability for your time, provide status updates, etc.
* Experience in requirements gathering, working with stakeholders to obtain information and bring clarity and definition to problems.
* Knowledge of financial products and the financial industry. E.g.: Trades, valuations, collateral, payments, asset classes such as Equities, Interest Rates, FX, Credit, etc.
* Experience working with data formats. E.g.: CSV, tab-delimited, XML.
* Previous experience in working with users and project teams to design and implement custom/bespoke solutions.
* Experience in unit testing, system integration testing (SIT) and support of user acceptance testing (UAT).
* Experience with large scale and complex technology implementations and migrations.
* Experience of end to end process flows and data quality management of FX or volume payments processes or wholesale banking physical notes business preferred.
* Experience of working in an international group or in an international role.
* Advanced Excel skills.
* SQL and Access Database experience desirable but not essential.

Education:
* Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
* Other suitable professional qualifications will also be considered.

This position is full-time, permanent. The role is expected to be office-based in London as part of the Finance team. However, we have an agile flexible working policy which enables you to work up to 2 days from home if desired.
