This role works within a team of specialists, and as the Product Engineer for Microsoft 365, develops and maintains Microsoft 365 solutions and services (including, SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, Power Platform and Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise) and other minor products owned by the Productivity & Collaboration Team, as directed and according to departmental (DDaT) policy and the Senior Product Owner – Productivity & Collaboration. The role will provide 3rd line support for the ICO’s M365 solutions and is the last point of technical escalation prior to vendor contact. The role investigates problems in systems, processes and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (for example, strategic, tactical or operational) leading to a contribution and implementation of remedies and preventative measures. The role works with and supporting third parties in providing end-user technology services as well working with technical architects to translate architectural designs into production environments. Key Responsibilities Takes ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Creates the specification and design of systems to meet the ICO’s defined business needs by working with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs. Demonstrates knowledge of the specific technologies necessary to fulfil the responsibilities and tasks of the role by applying the required breadth and depth of technical knowledge whilst actively keep informed of industry developments to make cost-effective use of new and emerging tools and technologies. Knows about the process of integrating systems and the challenges of designing, building and testing interfaces between systems. Shows an awareness of the relevant technical subject matter and a high-level understanding of what it involves. Has an awareness of issues that can exist across different technology capabilities that can include computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS), and open-source packages and solutions, and also including virtual and cloud computing such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). Discusses information security and the security controls that can be used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services with the Product Owner and the DDaT Cyber team. Shows an awareness of the scripting tools and software that are available and currently in use. Explains the most important principles of a modern technology standards approach and how they apply to the work you are undertaking then applying these principles under guidance. Owns Microsoft 365 issues until a new owner has been found or the problem has been mitigated or resolved by the Productivity & Collaboration team. Ensures relevant systems are monitored proactively and effectively for availability, capacity and performance, and investigating and escalating issues that may or have already affected operational stability. Ensures technical documentation is updated and maintained. Ensures that change control procedures are followed and managed effectively. Maintains up-to-date user training and guidance resources for all Microsoft 365 applications. Contributes to the ICO’s BCDR plan by preparing the relevant documented plans and testing and reporting test outcomes, when required. About you Essential criteria assessed at application stage Experience relevant to the role requirements, as described in the role responsibilities and person specification, and accumulated through any combination of academic or vocational qualifications or experience. A relevant Microsoft Qualification or willingness to work towards one such as a Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office Specialist or Microsoft Power Platform certification, for example. Extensive hands-on experience of designing, developing, configuring and supporting Microsoft 365 solutions. Ability to manage projects or continuing activities, including planning, monitoring, problem solving and providing effective reporting. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
