Heritage and Conservation Assistant
An exciting opportunity has opened up to work with us as a Heritage and Conservation Assistant within the Council's Environmental Planning Team, in the Planning Department.
The Environmental Planning Team is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals within the Planning Department, providing specialist advice on landscape architecture, design, arboriculture, ecology and heritage with a mission to improve and protect the varied and high-quality environments of Cheshire East.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Heritage and Conservation Assistant will work with the Heritage, Design and Landscape Team Leader to provide a built heritage advisory service to Cheshire East Council. You will provide advice where development proposals impact on the historic environment, produce assessments and recommendations on planning permission and listed building consent applications, and advise the Council, applicants and members of the public on building conservation issues. The role provides the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects including:
1. Advising on planning and listed building applications
2. Maintaining and updating the Council's Local List
3. Reviewing Conservation Areas
4. Supporting preparation of the Council's Local Plan
5. Advising on conservation and heritage matters across a variety of corporate projects
Cheshire East is one of the busiest Planning Authorities in the country and we have a broadly mixed portfolio of work. Accordingly, with no two applications or projects the same, the role covers a very diverse range of heritage and conservation issues at multiple scales.
ABOUT YOU
You will:
1. Have a completed or be working towards a degree level qualification within Conservation or Heritage
2. Have some planning or heritage related experience from the public or private sector
3. Have an understanding of a range of heritage and conservation assessment techniques
4. Be an effective team player with great communication skills
5. Have a flexible approach to work
6. Have a passion for the built environment and the role heritage plays within it

The ability to travel throughout Cheshire East and a full UK driving license are required.
This job is offered on a full time basis, however the Council supports flexible working so if you are interested but would like to discuss working less than full time hours, please do get in touch.
