Duties/ Responsibilities
* Attach loads to rigging.
* Prepare equipment, materials, or other items for movement by life equipment including cranes.
* Select, inspect, and maintain rigging equipment necessary for safe and proper lift.
* Guide lifts using hand signals, chain-falls, gin poles, gallows frame or other equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces for proper placement.
* Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
* Inspect rigging prior to lift to ensure proper operation of equipment.
* Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
* Repair lift equipment when necessary.
* Ability to read instructions, job information, and interpret to perform proper lift.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
* Thorough knowledge of crane signals.
* Ability to assess lifts and select most appropriate tools and equipment to perform lift in a safe and efficient manner.
* Ability to communicate and coordinate direction to others to assist with lift.
Education And Experience
* High School Diploma or GED.
* 1-2 years experience with rigging in a construction environment.
* Signalman 1 qualification.
* Rigger 1 qualification.
Desired But Not Required
* 2-4 years experience with rigging in a construction environment (preferably marine construction).
* Rigger 2 qualification.
Physical Requirements
* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
* Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
* Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
* Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
* Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
* Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
* Noisy environments.
* Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
* Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
