The Health Care Assistant is a key member of the care team that supports Registered Nurses and other health professionals in the delivery of high standards of palliative and supportive care for patients, families, and loved ones. Bank staff play a vital role in helping the hospice maintain these high standards of care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder may work across the In-Patient, Hospice at Home, Day, and Fast Track Services, providing palliative and supportive care to patients living with advancing illness. The role involves contact on a physical, psychological, spiritual, and emotional level with patients and their families. The post holder will undertake a range of care and support activities under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse. This post is subject to unsocial working conditions, i.e., a 24-hour shift rota (day and night shifts, weekdays and weekends, bank holidays). It may include lone working as a Night Sitter or in delivering Day Respite Care in patients' homes. The post holder will work according to the Code of Conduct for Assistant/Associate Practitioners and Healthcare Support Workers (2011, AP Coordinator Network), and Hospice policies and procedures.
