GSL Education are seeking a committed Pastoral Leader to join a thriving school in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about student welfare, behaviour management, and fostering a supportive school environment where every learner feels valued and motivated to succeed.
About the Role:
As a Pastoral Leader, you will be responsible for the well-being, behaviour, and personal development of students, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and encouraged throughout their educational journey. Working closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies, you will implement strategies to promote positive behaviour, attendance, and emotional well-being, helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
Responsibilities of a Pastoral Leader:
* Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, addressing their individual needs and concerns.
* Oversee student behaviour, attendance, and engagement, ensuring a positive and inclusive school culture.
* Implement and manage intervention strategies to support students experiencing difficulties, whether academic, social, or emotional.
* Act as a key liaison between students, parents, staff, and external agencies to facilitate holistic student development.
* Promote positive behaviour management techniques, reinforcing the school’s values and expectations.
* Deliver mentoring sessions, well-being workshops, and conflict resolution programmes to support student growth.
* Monitor and track student progress, identifying patterns and providing targeted interventions where necessary.
* Uphold safeguarding policies and act as a trusted figure for students requiring guidance and support.
Job Requirements of the Pastoral Leader:
* Experience in a pastoral, safeguarding, or student support role within an educational setting.
* A strong understanding of safeguarding policies, child protection and behaviour management strategies.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
* The ability to manage challenging situations with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
* A commitment to student well-being, inclusion and equality, ensuring all learners feel supported.
* A relevant qualification in education, counselling, youth work, or social care (preferred but not essential).
* Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
