HGV Driver - Skips Application Deadline: 30 May 2025 Department: Operations Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Manchester Description We are seeking to recruit a HGV driver at our wood recycling facility in Manchester. As a HGV Driver- Class 1, you will be responsible for undertaking all scheduled deliveries and collections, being responsible for the safety and security of the vehicle when loading, collecting and delivering whilst complying with all relevant legislation. Key Responsibilities Ensure knowledge of daily deliveries and collections as per the planning board. Carry out daily vehicle checks ensuring the vehicle is road worthy, fill out the defect sheets reporting any faults on your vehicle to the Fleet Coordinator. Conduct all prestart checks, to include, Digi-card and vehicle unit, update the mileage sheets and bins/covers. Undertake all scheduled deliveries and collections. Ensure the paperwork for collection/deliveries is completed appropriately and signed for and any financial account queries discussed where required. Inspect all collection container loads prior to leaving the Customer Site, notifying the Transport Office of any issues before accepting the container. To operate the vehicle in accordance with legal requirements both internally and externally the to the Company. To be responsible for the safety and security of the vehicle and load during delivery and collection. To be aware of cleanliness within your work and communal areas and that the 'Clean as you go' statement is enforced. Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of Company and customer information. Ensure that all Corporate Policies, Procedures and associated work activity Health and Safety documentation is adhered to. Ensure all skips for return are filled level prior to leaving the Customer Site and all skips for delivery are empty of previous loads. Record and notify both Customers and the Company of any damage to skips prior to leaving the Customer site. Report any damage to Customer premises that could be seen to be the driver's fault. Be responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle. Report all vehicle/activity defects as they occur, in line with the defect reporting system. Report all breaches of the Company Policy, Procedures and Health and Safety using appropriate communication methods. Actively report all near misses, incidents and accidents both on and off site. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise A Valid Licence. Customer focussed with experience of managing customer expectations appropriately. Good communication skills and attention to detail. Must have a proactive and safety focused approach. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships within and outside of the department.
