Whelen Engineering, located in Chester, CT, is a top manufacturer of emergency warning and lighting equipment for industries such as automotive, aviation, and public safety. We are seeking a Quality Assurance Inspector to join our team in Chester, CT, with support responsibilities for our Charlestown, NH location. The role involves performing First Article Inspections, documenting nonconformances, and supporting Production. The ideal candidate is familiar with inspection equipment and quality management systems, knowledgeable with quality tools like RCCA and PFMEA, and capable of conducting internal audits, maintaining measuring equipment, and is experienced with Microsoft Office.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
* Conducts First Article Inspections (FAIs) in compliance with AS9102, engineering standards, and customer requirements, collaborating with Engineering and Operations to resolve issues.
* Identifies and documents nonconformances and collaborates with stakeholders to facilitate root cause analysis and determine corrective and preventative actions.
* Supports internal and external supplier issues, facilitating Material Review Board (MRB) and Return Material Authorizations (RMA) activities as needed, including the disposition of nonconforming products.
* Ensures measuring equipment is in good working condition and calibrated.
* Performs scheduled internal audits.
* Carries out Receiving Inspection tasks as necessary.
Experience:
* Familiar with inspection equipment, including calipers, height gauges, and micrometers.
* Working knowledge of a Quality Management Systems (ISO9001), including internal auditing.
* Knowledgeable in quality tools such as Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA), Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP), Fishbone Diagrams, and 5 Whys.
* Skilled in identifying potential issues through trend analysis of customer complaints, audit findings, and nonconforming materials.
* Capable of understanding and training team members in new processes and techniques.
* Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
Education
* High School w/1+ years’ experience.
Physical demands and abilities:
* Able to lift up to 35 pounds.
* Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
* Regularly possesses manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
* Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
